Prominent sites vary in their assessment of the average words per minute of an American adult reader. Most sites range from 250 words per minute to 275. However, these metrics often fail to take into account a diverse demographic.

Evolved Studio uses 238 words per minute as its base adult reading speed to derive the reading time of a document. This number is based on studies showing this value to be more accurate and conservative estimate.

To calculate the Reading Time, Evolved Studio divides 238 (words per minute) by the number of words in the posting (parsed using a formula optimized for job postings).
