How Gender Influencers are Identified #

Evolved Studio’s Gender Influencer suggestions capability is inspired by research into language’s influence on appeal to different genders, and built on modern Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Artifiical Intelligence classifiers.

Artificial Intelligence #

Evolved Studio’s Artificial Intelligence engine is a proprietary Neural Network-based binary classifier (named “Gena”). Gena is based on analysis of over 3 million U.S. job postings across industries and regions and was developed specifically to detect gendered language.

Testing #

Classifications were validated against a set of over 170,000 job postings representing 36 occupations with a gender disparity of greater than 70% as reported by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (ie, men or women make up more than 70% of occupants in that role). Essentially, the words and phrases that Evolved Studio suggests have generally been confirmed to occur disparately in postings for roles with a great gender disparity. While this approach does not conclude causation, it does point to a relationship.

There is some feedback that discomfort can arise from seeing how “stereotypical” some suggestions are. While Evolved Studio’s approach was validated by data and we believe it accurately suggests potential influencers, as with all other suggestions its approach is just that - a suggestion. Ultimately, you decide what to accept and reject.
