Locating Shared Files #
When a document or folder is shared, it initially appears in the user’s home directory. It can be easily identified by the ‘shared’ icon present on the preview:
Unified File Locations #
All users of a shared folder see a “unified” view of that folder’s hierarchy (of the documents and folders they have access to). A document or folder only appears in one location for a user. This is different from some content managers that show shared files and folders in multiple locations. The top-most folder or document in a shared hierachy initially appears in the user’s Home folder.
For example, when a document is shared, it initially will appear in the user’s home directory. If the owner then shares the folder that contains that document with the same user, the folder will appear in the user’s home directory, with the document inside it. The document will no longer be present at the top level of the home folder - it’s inside the shared folder.
